The CISIA OnLine Test - TOLC

Description of the TOLC and information regarding registration for the TOLCs.
The TOLCs are aimed at students who intend to enrol in the three-year bachelor’s or single-cycle master's degree programs offered by the University of Macerata, excluding the single-cycle master's degree course in Primary Teacher Education (Scienze della Formazione Primaria) which is a limited-access course at national level and is governed by a specific public call. Consult attentively this webpage for learning all the details about the TOLCs.

What is the TOLC and what is it for?

TOLC is the acronym for CISIA OnLine Test. Developed and administered by CISIA - Consorzio Interuniversitario Sistemi Integrati per l'Accesso (Consortium of Inter-University Integrated Access Systems).

The TOLC is used to verify the minimum initial abilities required to pursue the studies successfully. The knowledge subject to verification depends on the chosen study program.

The TOLC must be taken by those entering the university system for the first time (first-time enrolment).

Exempted students from TOLC:

  • those who have already obtained a degree or an equivalent qualification obtained abroad;
  • those who are entitled to a shortening of a degree program;
  • those who have renounced a previous university career and those who request a transfer from another study program.

At the University of Macerata, the TOLC is not considered as a selection test, since all our bachelor’s degree programs and the single-cycle master’s degree program in “Law” are free-access.

Caring about the well-being of all students, the University of Macerata uses the TOLC to find proper strategies to make them pursue their university careers profitably, without interruptions: the TOLC is useful for identifying gaps and offering tools to fill them.

Before registering for the TOLC

Before registering for the TOLC, please make sure to read attentively the webpage TOLC types and minimum thresholds to verify which type of TOLC is required for the study program of your interest.

Where and when to take the TOLC

There are two methods of delivering the TOLC:

  • on-site, in university classrooms (TOLC at the university);
  • at home (TOLC@HOME).

The TOLC can be taken wherever you prefer, at any University with available seats, even if different from the one in which you wish to enrol.
PLEASE MIND: some universities, for access to their study courses, may not recognize the TOLCs delivered in @HOME mode. The University of Macerata recognizes both delivery methods (at the university and @HOME) as valid for its study courses.

CISIA publishes the complete calendar for the current year on its website.

The TOLC result will be sent directly from CISIA to the University, so it is unnecessary to indicate it in the enrollment procedure.

Concerning enrollments in study programs in the 2024/2025 academic year, the TOLCs taken from 1 January 2023 to 31 March 2025 are valid.

The OFA must be fulfilled within the first year of enrollment.

Further information on the OFA is available on the specific webpage Additional Learning Requirement (OFA).

Information for students with disabilities or learning disorders

Students with disabilities or learning disorders who want to request adaptations to be made for the TOLC test must select the relative option when registering on the CISIA website.
